This set was released quite recently by Revell and contains what has been awaited for quite some time by lots of 1/72 modellers: injected plastic seated pilots in large numbers! Until now the only other option was the Hasegawa set, which for the same price gave you just 3 seated pilots, leaving you do some surgery with the standing figures. Another possibility was to mix the legs of previous Revell sets (I used the RAF pilots & crew set as it contains more “seating legs”!) and match them with the busts of the ESCI/Italeri NATO pilots (This set only contains standing figures).
The box contains 28 figures, 12 of them seating pilots. A big instructions leaflet is enclosed, which may not be necessary but will be welcomed by anyone lacking references. No decals are included but then it would have been impossible to cover all squadrons patches and helmets for the air forces of three countries over 30 years!
The figures are molded in hard grey plastic which reacts very well to normal modelling glue (I tested it with Tamiya extra thin cement), unlike the previous RoG WWII-related releases. This is a very welcome change for all who will want to adapt the figures to specific positions.
The detail is not exceptional but quite sufficient for the size of the figures, see pictures. I will probably replace the heads with some leftovers from aftermarket pilots though.
